Do I Need a Visa for a Holiday with My Employer to Europe?
Simplified Schengen Visa Guide: Holidaying in Europe with Your Employer (via German Consulate General in Hong Kong)
Are you planning to join your employer on vacation to Europe? If you are a domestic helper in Hong Kong, your employer can apply for a Schengen Visa to take you to 26 countries in Europe (except the UK and Ireland). However, certain requirements and procedures need to be followed. Let's discuss more information.
Requirements
- Your employer will have to apply for a Schengen Visa for you to bring you to 26 countries in Europe (excluding the UK and Ireland) for a holiday.
- Your employer needs to apply for Schengen visas based on the country where you’ll spend the most time during your trip (not necessarily your port of entry).
- Your employer may only apply for the Schengen visa within six months of the intended travel departure date.
- The processing of your application can take up to two weeks (5 - 10 working days).
Documents
- Application Form (filled and signed)
- You can change the language to English or Bahasa Indonesia.
- Passport (copy of the photo page and pages with visas, stamps, etc., required)
- Valid for at least three months after leaving the Schengen area.
- Issued in the last ten years and with at least two free pages.
- Two passport photos according to biometrics requirements below:
- Taken within the last 3 months.
- Size at least 35 x 45 mm.
- Recommended photo studio from the German Consulate:
- FOTOMAX G/F Wai Lun Building, 82 Hennessy Road.
- FOTOMAX Unit 1012A, 1/F, United Centre, 95 Queensway.
- Proof of residency in Hong Kong
- Hong Kong ID and proof of address in Hong Kong.
- Work permit of the applicant:
- Valid for at least three months after leaving the Schengen area.
- Employer’s documents
- Copy of passports.
- Proof of residency in Hong Kong.
- Signed guarantee letter stating the following:
- All travel expenses incurred by the helper will be undertaken.
- Travel details, including the address of chosen accommodation.
- Reason why the helper has to travel along.
- Bank statements of the last 3 months.
- Employment contract (signed by employer and helper).
- Proof of flight reservation (round trip with the name of the helper/applicant).
- Proof of travel health insurance stating:
- Name of the applicant.
- Coverage of at least € 30,000 for medical expenses and repatriation.
- Valid for the entire Schengen area.
- Valid for the entire duration of stay in the Schengen area.
- Additional documents (optional)
- You may be asked to demonstrate possession of a bank account.
- In the absence of a bank account, you should provide copies of remittances sent home.
- It is advisable to ensure that if you don’t have a bank account, retain and save your remittance receipts (maintain around HKD 6,000).
Application
- Book an appointment at the German Consulate in Hong Kong (online appointment is required).
- Where to apply:
- Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany Hong Kong 21/F United Centre, 95 Queensway, Admiralty Hong Kong.
- Fee & Payment:
- Fee: € 80.
- Payment: Cash in HKD only.
- Application: Monday - Friday 08.30 - 11.30.
- Collection: Monday, Wednesday, Fridays 08:30 - 09:00.
※ The German Consulate General cannot proceed with a Schengen visa for Domestic Helper for Portugal and Slovenia.
